PESSOA COMPLEX AND SOCIAL MEDIA HACKING: HOW TO SURVIVE NFT MINING BIENNALE WANNABES

Fernando Pessoa is celebrated for his use of aliases and alter egos. In the age of Non Fungible Tokens and crypto mining rigs, these have become strategies for career as well as social advancement. There exists in the ethereal world of the cyberspace a certain dimension where the failed artist roosts, with his den of images, to be strategically send to unsuspecting celebrities, via fake ids.

The rampant misuse of social media platforms to spread canards as well as demeaning visual media has been adopted as a therapeutic passage by many in the art world. The curatorial bind and the power politics have consigned many an ambitious and talented artist to a life of mere drudgery and clerical ennui. Thus the less lived life has impelled them to seek larger than life alter egos.

The less you live, the more you are in need of fake ids. The NFTs and crypto mining rigs gives a false semblance of a life lived to the fullest. The Ethereum mining crypto millionaire, curating a biennale from the global south as an emancipatory figure, nay superman, is the aggrendizing fantasy of accelerationist times.

The environmental toll taken by crypto, the ethical debacle of compromising images, the fraught issue of identity theft and the virus of political correctness that provides an ideological veneer to all of these, comprise an ecosystem of violence and toxic masculine notions of positivity and advancement.

The German philosopher Hegel, the English romantic poet Keats, the Frankfurt school thinker Adorno are some of the major thinkers of negativity. In these toxic, viral times, one needs not MORE living, but more honest ways of living.

As a quote wrongly attributed to the Buddha has it: when you die you leave three things i)how much you loved ii) how gently you lived iii) how easily you let go of things that were not meant for you

It is time the crypto miners and NFT junkies looked up from their rigs and looked at the Real. Welcome
